Grants and Fundings 2016-2017
GRANTS SECURED FOR YEAR 2016 AND 2017 BY THE FACULTY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PAHANG
Every year, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) organises a workshop on how to write a grant proposal in order to assist the researchers in acquiring research grants from various institutions, government or private sector. The available grants are UMP Internal Grant, Science Fund, Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP), Exploratory Research Grant Scheme (ERGS), Prototype Research Grant Scheme (PRGS), Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), Research Acculturation Grant Scheme (RAGS), and also Research Acculturation Collaboration Effort (RACE). The grants secured are allocated under the Focus Groups established in FKM, UMP since 2011.
There are seven focus groups established in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, namely; Automotive Engineering Focus Group (AUTO), Advanced Structural Integrity and Vibration Research Group (ASIVR), Human Engineering Group (HEG), Manufacturing Focus Group (MFG), Energy Sustainability Focus Group (ESFG), Structural Material and Degradation (SMD) and Advanced Liquid Focus Group (ALFG). The Advanced Liquid Focus Group is the most recently formed as a more focused sub-group of the Automotive Engineering Focus Group. Every year, each group plans and aspires to secure different amount of research grant. Table 1 shows the type of grants secured by the Focus Groups in 2016 and 2017, whereas Figure 1 provides an illustration of the same in graphical presentation.
Most of the Focus Groups received grants from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Internal Grant totally amounting to RM1.238 million in 2016 and RM 1.725 million in 2017. The second highest grants received was from FRGS totally amounting to RM 1.571 million. This is followed by KTP, Seed Money, RAGS, PRGS, Science Fund and RACE. The total amount of grant secured by all six Focus Groups for the year 2016 was RM 2.461 million. In 2017 FKM managed to secure RM 4.802 million which records an increment of 32.23%. The most research active Focus Group in 2017 is AUTO Focus Group who managed to secure RM 1.614 million. Eventhough the allocated amount of grant keeps decreasing year by year, FKM research groups maintain at their best by securing higher amount of grants.
